I pledge
My head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service, and
My health to better living,
For my club, my community, my country, and my world.
Tranquil Menagerie is a 4-H group in Tolland County, Connecticut. We are a group that has many interests in animals along with other activities as well. We have three leaders and many dedicated parents that help our club run smoothly.
Our 4-H group has a teen leader who aids in the overall organizing of the club, and we have junior leaders to help with specific project areas. Our club started out in 2006 with only a handful of members. We now have about 20 members who are involved with multiple animal projects. Some of these projects are rabbits, poultry, goats, sheep and llamas/alpacas. Many of our 4H members are able to lease animals from our leaders.
Besides animals, our 4-H group currently has an interest in using the fibers from our animals to do fun arts and crafts. We take mohair from the angora goats, angora fibers from the angora rabbits, wool from the sheep, and llama fibers from our llamas as well. We can make blends of all these differents types of fibers, dye them, and make our very own jewelry, clothing, etc. which can also be entered into the fair. We are a very busy club that takes joy in doing all kinds of fun projects!
Our club also has a focus on Community Service. We have developed a relationship with a local nursing home and have made several visits to share our animals and our 4H experience. We have also attended several festivals in the area to educate the public on 4H and our animals. This year our club is volunteering at Podunk Farm in South Windsor. We will be assisting with animal care, grounds upkeep and programs.
Our main focus is spending time with our animals, learning about how to properly care for them and having lots of fun along the way.
