We have quite a few community service projects we are working on this year including:
Manchester Manor (nursing home)- Some of our members visited the residents at the Manor and shared with them some of our memories and experiences in 4H. We plan to have regularly scheduled activities with the Manor. Our next visit is coming up 10/27 at 6:30pm. Please wear your 4H tshirt and bring an animal to share.
Podunk Farm Resources Our club will have an ongoing project with the Podunk Farm theraputic and educational farm, volunteering with animal care, grounds projects and programs.
CT Sheep and Wool Festival: Our club will have a booth again this year to educate people about 4H and Fiber Animals. We will also have a children's craft and demonstrations, along with face painting!
Strawberry Festival: Our club will be doing a booth at the strawberry festival in south windsor this year all about 4-H and the animals! .
Operation Christmas Child: Our club will be sending gift wrapped shoe boxes to children in other countries for Christmas. We will be putting them together at our Halloween party so please bring any shoe boxes you have along with wrapping paper you wish to donate. Below is a list of gift ideas that can be purchased pretty cheaply to fill up the boxes. You can also go through some of your stuff that you have at home. Gently used items are welcome.
TOYS
small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch®, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky®, etc.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.
HYGIENE ITEMS
toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc.
OTHER
Hard candy and lollipops (please double bag all candy), mints, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps; sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries)
A PERSONAL NOTE
In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)
