The Group Schedule

Each of our meetings has a specific topic that is going to be discussed. We have six different animal topics that are covered at different meetings. We currently discuss rabbits, goats, poultry, llamas, sheep, and horses. Our meetings are set in advance so that everyone knows when they are and what to bring. Our meetings mainly take place at either Liz or Kristen's house depending on the animal. Rabbit and horse meetings take place at Kristen's house and goat/sheep, llama, and poultry meetings take place at Liz's house. Most of the time, carpooling is available for those who have a long commute from house to house.

Each meeting is two hours long and is cut into half hour increments. We'll talk more about that later. We also have a mandatory monthly meeting called our Club Meeting. This meeting is run by our president, Ashley who leads the kids through the meeting and inform them of the current "goings-ons" of the club. We then have a snack and enjoy ourselves if there is time as the club meetings don't usually take up the full two hours. These meetings allow us to cover any important news, get reports from the different officers who keep track of what is going on in the club.  After these meetings, the kids either go around doing the chores that come with leasing or owning animals for 4-H, or we do a fun game or activity.

The Way our Meetings are Run

As we mentioned a little earlier, our animal meetings are cut into half hour increments. This is done so that we don't lose the attention of the kids while talking about one subject for too long. Our meetings run somewhat like this:

1/2 hour~ instructional program   A presentation is given by one of the junior leaders, leaders, or any other person wishing to research a topic and present it to the group. We may end up having a guest speaker who will lead  a majority of the meeting.

1/2 hour~ A fun game or activity that is run by either a junior leader or a leader

1/2 hour~ Hands on Activity    The kids will be working with their animals or other materials that may be used on their animals.

1/2 hour~ Showmanship practice or instruction  The kids will most likely be working with their animals on showmanship skills that are much needed for the fairs coming up this summer.

After most of our meetings, many of the kids are extremely eagar to run out and start helping out around the farms to do any chores asked of them. This is a great way to really learn what taking care of all of their animals is really like. They are a great help and they sure learn a lot!
